When you break a diet, never get in that mindset of “now I have to start over.” Think about it like this- when you go on a road trip and you miss a turn, do you drive allll the way back home and start over? No! You keep going because it’s a JOURNEY. You’ve got this, we all know you do.

Food is not “good” or “bad” having a healthy/good relationship with food and learning that everything is okay in moderation I think would really help. It’s not helpful to have this bad relationship with food.

    • Mending Wall

@Coconutty I totally agree. This all food is good nonsense is what caused me to have high cholesterol and pre diabetes in my 20s. Nothing wrong with a treat but we have to be honest with ourselves. Some foods are good and nutrient dense and others are garbage, though delicious 😋

    • Sapphie Bee
      Sapphie Bee 7 개월 전 +5

@Coconutty it is, if you eat too much of it. It’s okay to have processed foods in MODERATION. Moderation is the key to a healthy relationship with food and seeing food, as just food and not as “good” or “bad”.

Mindset is everything & I would not refer to meals as “cheats”, but just meals w no restrictions. That is a healthier mindset to have overall bc you won’t feel like you failed when u have one of those meals. Calling it a cheat can make it more desirable bc you’re doing something you’ve deemed as “bad”. I did lose 70 lbs w this mindset so it did work for me!

  • Lauren W.
    Lauren W. 7 개월 전 +594

Not a professional but I feel like labeling food “bad” and “good” and using terms like “cheat day” is counterproductive. I feel like working with a dietician would be really beneficial. The more people restrict, the more they will binge. Eat a normal, healthy, sustainable meal that you love and you won’t have the incessant need to have “cheat days”. This is not to drag on Jaclyn at all, I wish her all the best in her journey, but she still seems to be really struggling with the best way to do this and I would hate for her to develop more bad habits out of a bad “diet.” The more you obsess about your cheat day, the more you’re saying that the daily food you eat isn’t happy or enjoyable. Eating healthy shouldn’t be depressing, it should be sustainable. It includes having treats when you feel like it, but in moderation. And that’s the main thing I saw here, absolutely no moderation. Moderation in everything, seriously.

I found the best way is really paying attention to calorie deficit. Lol sometimes adding a 1 hour work out to have what people may call cheat food. Being able to eat anything just as long as portion/calories are taken into account

But you’d think with all the money she has an available information on the internet you’d hire a dietician and do some research as to why you shouldn’t cut food groups out? Obviously she’s then going to “cheat”!!! Ugh this has annoyed me

Just remember when you restrict you will binge later. You don’t need to restrict completely your fave foods. Rice, beans, salsa all are healthy options, even a sandwich and bread is okay to have you just try to make better choices and also see how you feel when your eating certain things. If your happy eating pasta and feel good then girl eat the pasta lol dress it up and find healthy ways to eat your faves :) God bless girl!! Remember your doing this not to lose weight but to feel better so focus on that!

Salsa & beans aren’t unhealthy in anyway & I don’t understand why she sees those as bad unless it fucks with her stomach. But, there are so many different alternatives available now, like pasta noodles & sauces n such. It doesn’t need to be as restrictive

Don´t mean to be rude, but why don´t you hire a dietitian and a personal trainer that can actually be guiding you through the process?? I feel like having someone actually supervising you and giving you actual goals to achive might help you to teach yourself how to really have a healthy lifestyle. Learning from professionals is the best way to do things but I can also understand everyone has their own path and ways of doing things, but you should consider it, doing such big changes in your life by your own its extremely challenging! wishing you the best during your journey xx

      Jessica Mitrea 7 개월 전 +2

Hi Marina, I do believe she has already mentioned in a video (either on YT or Instagram) mentioning that she has spoken to a professional already to work out what is best for her. Nonetheless, this is HER journey at the end of the day. I’m sure she is aware that dieticians and personal trainers exist, whether or not she has considered them. She is extremely brave for recording this, so credit to her for having courage to do what a lot of us may not be able to. She is entitled to do as she pleases. Be kind always 🥰

    • Sam Madlin

I totally agree. The right dietician and trainer will actually educate enough so she wont need to rely on it for life.

Yea 100% agreed. I would for sure have a trainer if i could afford it. But i can’t so I did a ton of research for myself that led me to a healthy lifestyle that eats nutritious food with treats in moderation that fuels my body to kill my workouts. She needs to find a way to a healthy lifestyle that’s not constantly binging and dieting repeatedly.

Jaclyn, I feel really compelled to share with you my thoughts on body building. I started weight lifting two years ago and before then I could barely walk a mile or lift a 5 lb dumbbell over my head. Now I can run 6 miles and lift a 20 lb dumbbell over my head 8 times. I come from a family history of obesity so health was never a priority growing up. This caused disordered eating patterns in my teen years. Weight lifting was the only lifestyle change I made where I saw results FAST and I could be CONSISTENT. Women are so afraid to weight lift in fear of looking bulky and that is simply not true. I look so feminine and ripped and best of all- I EAT SO MUCH NOW. When you lift weights your body neeeeeeeds food to build muscle. You will never feel guilty eating large portions again because your body will tell you exactly how much it needs to recover. I can't stress enough how much weight training can change your outlook on your own strength, capabilities, and natural instincts.
You gave me confidence growing up to express myself in ways that made me feel beautiful. I hope this comment inspires you to explore different health options that will give you confidence too!

Girl I love you and so proud that you are doing this for yourself! Please don’t say “cheat meals”. It has such a negative connotation. Like you said when talking to Jordan. “It’s about balance”. A trainer I follow recommends a 17/20 method. He says “Out of every 20 meals, 17 of them are healthy”. The other 3 are your less healthy or “cheat” meals. Maybe try that out! Food is meant to sustain us for our lively hood! You can’t live life with the negativity! Enjoy life and enjoy food!

it's just important to know that: 1) "healthy" food can still taste good/be flavorful, 2) once you start eating more healthy you can actually eat a ton more (volume & frequency), 3) talking to a professional can give you amazing guidance/simplify your goals

I remember when I was trying to do the elimination diet to see what my food sensitivities were with my nutritionist and it was hell of hard when I would go to places with friends. They all were eating food I couldn’t have, and I was in the corner over there almost crying eating my chicken soup with no noodles. It gets better but definitely agree that it starts with one bite. That’s why I had to go cold turkey and I couldn’t allow myself to eat things at the office for a season. But I believe in balance totally! And it doesn’t mean healthy food has to be nasty and flavorless. If you have the self control, allow yourself to have some kind of special treat once a week.

Congrats, babe! You honestly look gorgeous. I think you have a beautifully curvy body. What this is about is being HEALTHY and HAPPY. I have struggled my whole life and carbs are my weakness. I honestly don't care for sweets too much. But salt? YES, BITCH. My weight kept fluctuating, esp because of my chronic pain due to spinal and nerve issues. And I wasn't just overweight, I was obese so I decided to look into weight loss surgery and my surgeon said I was the perfect candidate as I didn't have any major weight-related health issues yet (diabetes, high blood pressure, etc) and that's why I decided at age 31, 3 years ago, to have it so that I don't develop those issues. And I have zero regrets. People think it's cosmetic... like lipo or something, but it's not. It's ROUGH. But it's a tool to help change your lifestyle and I eat soooo differently than I used to! Carbs and sugar make me feel like crap. I lost 160 lbs and am actually in the healthy weight range, which I NEVER thought I would be. I imagined and was working towards "healthy curves". But I lost more than I intended. I'm now struggling with excess skin and saggy boobs... which definitely weighs on my confidence. But I know I am better off and am healthier and that's worth it. I wanted to be a positive example for my kids and help all of us eat and live healthier.
And I know you will get there yourself. You are so blessed to have Jordan helping to keep you accountablebut also support and love you. I think if you stopped thinking of the “cheating” mindset it may help you. Like no food is morally bad. Don’t punish yourself for eating anything. If you want this to be long term, you can’t completely restrict yourself. When you eat something that doesn’t have nutritional value tell yourself “I’m eating this for my soul. I will enjoy it thoroughly. After this I’m going to nourish my body”

@PURPLE SPACESHIP Well, at least you understood what I meant. I meant stop food guilt. Heal your relationship with food. Don’t punish yourself for eating something. Was not remotely referring to whether the food you choose is ethical or environmentally friendly.

Another amazing episode of this series! It’s so encouraging to see the ups and downs that go with a journey to a healthier lifestyle. It’s normal to take one step forward and two back before things start to click. This is inspiring and I’m so happy you’re sharing this with us. It’s REAL and it really makes those of us trying to do the same thing feel encouraged to keep going.

Hi Jaclyn! I’m new and I began watching because I am working on my own journey as well. I personally appreciate the transparency, that takes a lot of courage and not a lot of people are willing to talk about.
What has helped me is therapy. I began noticing how PMS would impact my mood and I was given tools to help and I have a space where I can tackle my feelings about myself especially with food.
I have worked so hard to not restrict certain food groups like sweets or carbs and started incorporating them into my day in moderation. For me (obviously everyone is different) I noticed that if I restricted certain groups of food, I would later binge them which isn’t good. So I’m healing my relationship with food and my idea of health. All of this to say, that I truly love the authentic side of this process because it isn’t easy and I can’t imagine doing it as a creator on the internet. Keep going!❤️

I’ve been struggling with my weight since I was aware of my weight. It is a constant battle. This is so wonderful what you are doing because you are being so honest! I know what has truly helped me over the years when you get into your head like you do try try try to remember you WHY. WHY are you doing this? I have my WHY written everywhere, I even made a damn tshirt with it plastered on there. The other thing that is crucial is your support system (which you have your man is amazing!!) and accountability. Who is your accountability partner? I’m sure you’ve heard all of this before but I want to say thank you for being you! 😊💜

Someone once said this to me and it really stuck so I’m going to share it with you. You have to choose your “hard”. It’s ALL hard. Eating healthy is hard. Working out is hard. But you know what? Feeling like shit is hard too. Not fitting into your clothes is hard. Choose YOUR hard. You’ve got this and I love you!

I say this out of nothing by kindness and respect, but I sincerely think you need to speak to a dietician or nutritionist. When you've had an unhealthy relationship with food for so long it is extremely difficult to break patterns and habits on your own without the help of professionals. You have the means and resources to hire someone who can help you make better food and lifestyle choices that I really think would benefit you and anyone watching who struggles similarly to you. Its a shame to watch someone struggle needlessly when help is available. I wish you nothing but the best on your health journey!

@Florence Tatro agree! We live in a world now where any kind of advice you give someone is taken as your hurting their feelings! I personally want my friends n family to be honest with me! Not lie to me to spare my feelings! I want the truth n help. Not someone saying to me I look great when I know I don’t! My daughters and I tell each other the truth out of love!

This!!!! I'm an ED therapist and these past two videos have been RIDDLED with toxic diet culture messaging. I know Jaclyn is struggling and I hope she gets the help she needs, but she has a platform and needs to be responsible with the way she uses it. Really upsets me.

@imnumber141 oh shut up.what was said is not bad at all. People suggest and have their own opinions and it's not like anyone was mean or name called her. There is absolutely nothing nothing nothing wrong with what anyone or I said about seeing a dietitian or trainer. If your that sensitive about it,then perhaps you need therapy as well just saying.

Hey Jaclyn I’ve been watching your videos for about 7 years now and I’ve seen your journey. First of all girl be proud of yourself to have come as far as you’ve come and have overcome some seriously emotional and stressful situations! I relate so much to this journey your doing now because it’s exactly to a T what I’m going through. How you feel about yourself is exactly how I feel about myself. I was overweight from getting too comfortable in a toxic relationship and when that ended I found my way into drugs. I ended up loosing about 100 pounds in a year but I had also become a drug addict. My life fell apart and I lost everything, but I was at the best weight I have ever been. I felt good about myself and felt good in clothes as well as didn’t mind pictures taken of me. I however went to rehab May of 2020 and have now been 15 months clean WOOHOO! But I have also put on 75 pounds. I hate the way I look and feel and I struggle with knowing how easy it would be to just start using again and Id loose the weight. Just know your not alone in your journey I’m right here with you and I’m just so thankful for you because your videos brought me so much joy and light in my life when I was in a very dark place! Don’t give up and know that YOU are your own best accountability partner! We all have support systems but discipline and determination are keys! Now I need to take my own advice and get up and take my dog on a walk! Keep your head held high and know that there’s people like me who have followed you for years and may never post comments, but you have made an impact on our lives! Love you Jaclyn!
Never let the Devil steal your happiness ❤️
